The RAID Concours d'Elégance is the oldest Concours in Switzerland that is conducted yearly, celebrating its 22nd birthday in 2017. It was born in connection with the RAID SUISSE-PARIS but is now an independent event that takes place on Wednesday afternoon, one day before the start of the rally and at the same time as the RAID Prologue.
The RAID Concours d'Elégance begins in the midst of the old city centre of Basel with a show of the participating cars in the main shopping street (Freie Strasse), followed by their presentation before the jury and the many spectators for the Award Presentation (Marktplatz).
The Concours d'Elégance is a beauty contest for classic cars but criteria such as authenticity, state of preservation, original features, cultural worth, rareness and the general impression of the vehicle also form part of the evaluation.
The participating cars are usually divided into the following three categories:
Category A: up to year 1939
Category B: up to year 1980
Category C: sports cars 1950 – 1980
