Time keeping

To add a sporting and competitive element to the rally to Paris, several regularity and navigation tests are to be completed. The winner of the RAID is the driver with the lowest number of penalty points. Professional and experienced RAID time keepers will accompany the RAID from Basel to Paris.

Individual evaluation sheets with a summary of the penalty points of each participant will be posted at the stage destination.

Stages

The average speed of the stage is indicated in the procedural regulations; the stage distance in km or in miles is indicated in the Roadbook.

The actual start time will be entered on the log sheet at the start of the first stretch of the day. When calculating your theoretical arrival time, consider the length of the stage, average speed as well as deviations due to Spéciales.

Time frame:
From the calculated arrival time onwards, you have 12 minutes in which to pass the checkpoint.

Consequences of Spéciales during the stage:
The average speed may deviate from the general average speeds (see above) for the duration of the regularity controls. The average speed during the regularity controls will never exceed 50 km/h. Please consider the difference between the average speed during these special tests and the average speed of the whole stage when calculating your planned arrival time. The duration of the complete stage will be shorter or longer accordingly (no compensation of the regularity controls before the end of the stage).

Example:
Start of the stage is at 8 a.m. The length of the stage is 90 km. The prescribed average stage speed is 45 km/h. During the stage you have to complete a Spéciale on a length of 10 km with an average speed of 40 km/h. This means that you will need 15 minutes for the Spéciale (10 km divided by 40 km/h), for the rest of the stage you will need 106 min and 40 s (80 km divided by 45 km/h), so in total you need 121 min and 40 s. As a result, your time frame begins at 10:01:40 and ends at 10:13:40.

Neutralisation:
Neutralisation time is defined by the RAID organisation and will be credited. The neutralisation time must be added to your calculated planned arrival time (e.g. planned arrival time 12 a.m., neutralisation time along the road 10 minutes à new planned arrival time 12.10).

Penalty points:
200 penalty points: arrival before the beginning of the individual arrival time frame
100 penalty points: arrival after the end of the individual arrival time frame

Spéciales (Special or regularity tests)

Leaflet Spéciale [51KB]

Spéciales are either indicated in the Roadbook or kept secret. The start time of the Spéciale is either entered on the log sheet or will be handed out just before the start.

The start time for the regularity controls will be entered on the log sheet, the finish is measured electronically. Deviations from the required time over or under target will be penalised with 1 penalty point per 1/10 sec. For ex aequo decisions, measurement of 1/1000 sec.

Please keep in mind that the finish line of a Spéciale may be at the same time the start of another regularity test (will be indicated accordingly). In that case, the start time will not be entered on the log sheet.

Crossing the finish line is measured with photo sensors. These are installed approx. 30-40 cm above the ground. For help, a white line on the road indicates the position of the photo sensors.

The binding and official RAID time is the official RAID-start clock (TAG Heuer), which will be visible each day at the start.

Hose tests

Leaflet hose tests [31KB]

These tests – unlike the Spéciales – are completed on very short stretches (max. 100 m). The time is measured by pressure on tubes positioned on the ground.

At the start of a "tube test" an information table indicates the required time (in seconds) and the distance to cover (in meter).

The pressure of the front wheels on the tubes (start resp. finish) will activate resp. stop the time keeping (registered electronically).

Deviations from the required time over or under target will be penalised with 1 penalty point per 1/10 sec.

Penalty points

You will find a list with all possible penalties points in the procedural regulations

Evaluation

Each participant receives every day an individual evaluation sheet. Any protest against these entries (see sport regulations) must be made according to rules of procedure.

There is a special ranking list for the category sport which includes all additional tests for this category (e.g. circuit, night stage). However for the final overall ranking list, only the tests that were completed by all three categories (Vétérans / Tourisme / Sport) will be taken into account.

Ranking lists

At the prize giving ceremony the following ranking lists are put up: overall ranking, ladies teams, categorial and team ranking.
