Category Vétérans - the grand classics

You will be the greatest attraction! The average speeds for this category are adapted to the terrain and are chosen as such to master the stages well. The veterans are the first to start on a stage. This category is characterised by a strong companion-ship among the veterans.

"Beautiful route, ideal conditions for oldtimers."
Renato Fontana, Fiat 1100, 1939

"With our oldtimer of 1927 we had no trouble at all.

We were impressed by the great solidarity among the drivers and

by the enthusiasm with which we were received along the route."
Robert Schindler, Studebaker Commander, 1927

Category Tourisme - Experience and enjoy!

The RAID’s traditional category. This category is destined for drivers for whom the journey is the reward and who would like to enjoy France and its loveliness. However, the sportive element will not be absent.

"The RAID: There is no other connection as beautiful between Switzerland and Paris.

We will be back!"
Rico Gass, Ford Mustang, 1968

"That was real fun,

let alone the social contact with the other participants."
Rudolf Grotefels, Alvis TC 21/100, 1954

Category Sport - Speed, drive, navigation

Ambitious drivers will find in this category everything a sportive international rally should offer. The challenges are aplenty: also in the anniversary year you may expect particular special tests and a night stage which requires target-oriented navigation. Driver and codriver will both face challenges of every kind.

"As ambitious rally drivers we were not disappointed in the category sports: it is very challenging!"
Gerd Blankenhagen, Lancia Fulvia, 1970

"The category sports is very demanding.

Hard, speedy and a superb night stage, which you really appreciate as a passionate rally driver."
Daniel Grubenmann, Saab Sonett III, 1971

Shared enthusiasm!

Participants to the RAID get to know France from its most beautiful side: a vast country with solitary, well constructed roads. This entails, that you will be on the road only in small groups or even practically alone. Nevertheless, at the day’s final destination, at the buffet or even during the rally you will meet like-minded people, you will share the RAID experience, form friendships.
